TxDOT Roadway Update

LUFKIN  – TxDOT crews have monitored road conditions through the night in the nine-county Lufkin District and have treated some icing on bridges, overpasses and roadways.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution and check road conditions at drivetexas.org before heading out this morning.

TxDOT officials in Sabine, Shelby, San Augustine and Nacogdoches counties began treating roadways early last night where patchy ice began forming after a freezing drizzle fell late in the afternoon. Temperatures hover near the freezing mark this morning and are expected to warm into the 40s later today.

The Lufkin area dodged the bullet for accumulating ice overnight but TxDOT crews were out and did treat some overpasses and bridges as a precautionary measure.

Motorists who must drive early this morning are advised to use caution since frozen roadways can always be hazardous. Some areas were treated with rock and/or salt to make the roads safer for early morning commutes.

Crews will continue to monitor roads throughout the morning. Motorists should be prepared to slow down if they encounter work crews on the roadways.
