Desert Storm observance set for Friday in Center

The Gulf War codenamed Operation Desert Storm began on January 17, 1991 when
coalition forces from 34 nations led by the United States began aerial bombardment of Iraq.  This was in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait.  A week later on February 24th, a ground assault began the liberation of Kuwait and advancement into Iraqi territory.  When the war
ended on February 28th, 1991, 148 Americans had died in battle.  There were another 145 nonbattle deaths and 467 wounded.

Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Ladies Auxiliary will remember the service and sacrifice of those Americans who participated in "Desert Storm" with a memorial wreath laying at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Center, Texas on Friday, February 27th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.  All Desert Storm veterans are
invited as our guest(s) of honor.  As always the public is cordially invited.
