January Sales Tax Revenues show steady increase statewide, not same story around here

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported Wednesday that state sales tax revenue for January was up over 11 percent compared to January 2014.

He said the growth in sales tax revenues was led by business spending.

Despite the good news statewide, those numbers were in a deficit for Shelby and San Augustine Counties.

In Shelby County, as a whole January sales tax revenues were down almost 4.5 percent and 2.7 percent in San Augustine County.

The City of Center’s check is just about 4 percent behind that of 2014, as Center will receive a payment of $336, 519.

Joaquin was down almost 23.5 percent.

On the other hand, Tenaha’s January payment is up over 14 percent, Huxley’s 3.5 percent, and Timpson’s check is 2.5 percent better than a year ago.

The Shelby County January sales tax revenue total is $392,000.

The City of San Augustine had a double-digit increase in January from a year ago with a payment of almost $44,000, a 10.5 percent increase.

However, Broaddus’ January payment was down over 54 percent.
