Timpson ISD Trustees agree to keep volleyball program, students must decide on ball or band

After receiving public input both for and against, and debating the issue, the Timpson ISD Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to keep the girls’ volleyball program during their meeting Tuesday night.

Timpson ISD Superintendent Dr. Mid Johnson said administration, the board and both the athletic and band program have wrestled with the pros and cons. He said it’s been difficult to find a solution and resolve the conflicts, primarily for students that want to play volleyball and be in the band.

Therefore, Dr. Johnson said, the board has decided that a young lady must now decide to do one or the other—not both.

He said the tradition-rich band program has suffered through the scheduling issue having to work around students being absent from practice due to playing volleyball. However, Dr. Johnson said there are those students not involved in band that want to play volleyball.

“There’s just no other way to resolve this conflict,” Dr. Johnson commented. “The board wants to do what’s best for the students.”
