Two-vehicle accident in Center sends three to local hospitals; crash in Joaquin investigated last night

Center Police investigated a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Louisiana Street that sent three to area hospitals and resulted in a Center woman receiving citations.

 

Center PD Sgt. Duane Gordon said a Chevy Impala driven by 23-year old Francesca Jenkins of Center failed to yield right-of-way and was struck by a Chevy pickup driven by 25-year old Douglas Williams of Converse, La. Just after 4 p.m.

 

Ace EMS transported Jenkins to Nacogdoches Memorial, while Williams and a passenger, 22-year old Anthony Hemphill of Logansport, were both taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health in San Augustine, all with unknown injuries.

 

Two passengers in Jenkins’ car, 46-year old Angie Garrett and 17-year old Essence Pitts, both of Center, were uninjured.

 

Jenkins was also ticketed for failure to display driver’s license and no proof of financial responsibility.

 

Assisting at the scene were the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, DPS and Center Fire Dept. and volunteer fire personnel.

 

A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Hwy. 7 and U.S. Hwy. 84 last night sent both drivers to Center Emergency Department with non-life threatening injuries. The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash. The names of the drivers and other incident information was not available this morning.
