Local Sports Round up 12/18/14; Dist. 11-2A football all-district picks from Tenaha & Timpson, state championship weekend starts today in Arlington

Tenaha Tiger senior running back Cobe Caraway has been named the Dist. 11-2A MVP as the all-district post-season football honors were released this Wednesday.

 

Two other Tigers also picked up superlatives as Tenaha senior QB T.J. Thomas was co-offensive MVP and senior linebacker DaMarcus Perry was tabbed Defensive MVP.

The Texas high school football state championships are being determined today thru Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Class 2A & 3A title games are on the line today. Fox Sports Southwest will be carrying a telecast of each champsionship. Here's a rundown of games:

The Center Roughriders will be playing in the Tatum Tournament today thru Saturday. The Riders' first game is 5:30 p.m. today vs. Spring Hill.

 

The Center Lady Riders are home against Huntington starting at 5 p.m. Friday

 

The San Augustine Wolves will be in Hudson Friday night.

 

The Tenaha Tigers will be in the Martins Mill Tourney starting today. The Tigers take on state-ranked Martins Mill at 7:40 p.m. tonight, and will play Paradise at 11:40 a.m. Friday & Callisburg at 8 p.m. Friday.

 

The Tenaha Lady Tigers are home against San Augustine Friday at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons will host Burkeville Friday at 5 p.m.

 

The Timpson Bears and Lady Bears go to Overton Friday starting at 5 p.m.

 

The Joaquin Rams and Lady Rams host New Summerfield getting underway at 3:30 p.m.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs have district games at home against Hemphill Friday.

 

Martinsville teams will be at Broaddus Friday beginning at 1 p.m.

 

For the 6th consecutive year, Tenaha ISD will host the Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic on December 29, 30, and 31. Forty of the state’s top Class 1A, 2A, and 3A programs will descend upon Tenaha for an opportunity to battle it out on the hardwood for what has become one of Texas’ top invitational tournament trophies. The tourney will include 71 games over three days being played in Tenaha, Gary, Joaquin and Carthage.

 

In college hoops last night, the SFA Lumberjacks take a 66-60 win over Texas State to win their seventh-straight. SFA will take on Arkansas Tech at 2 p.m. Saturday in Nacogdoches.
