Local sales tax revenues vary in latest report

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced the Nov. 2014 state sales tax revenues for local entities last week and overall numbers are pretty comparable to the same time a year ago, with some cities seeing hefty increases.

 

In the City of Center the Nov. check will be for $226,000, which is almost three-percent less than 2013. Year-to-date, Center is down just over one percent from last year having received just under $3 million.

 

Elsewhere in Shelby County, Tenaha, Timpson and Huxley are all up this November, with Tenaha showing a 79 percent rise, Timpson just over 50 percent from last year, and Huxley 28.5 percent.

 

Joaquin meanwhile is down almost 10 percent compared to Nov. 2013.

 

Overall, Shelby County’s Nov. 2014 tax revenues are less than one percent below where they were in Nov. 2013. In 2014, the county’s sales tax revenues to date are $3.532 million, which are one-percent less than the year before.

 

San Augustine’s Nov. 2014 sales tax revenue check is up over 128 percent from 2013, with San Augustine receiving $42,595, and up 22.50 percent year-to-date payments.

 

Statewide, sales tax revenues are up 10.7 percent compared to Nov. 2013.
