Shelby County Child Welfare Board annual fund drive to be held at Center Walmart Saturday

The Shelby County Child Welfare Board will have their annual fund drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday at the Center Walmart.

 

For over 20 years the board has collected donations to assist in providing supplies for abused and neglected children in Shelby County and year-round emergency assistance for families in desperate circumstances.

 

Board member Guy Harrison said your donations go to buy 150 Walmart gift cards that are given to students under the age of 12 in Shelbyville, Timpson, Tenaha, Center and Joaquin. He said these children come from families that can't afford Christmas presents, and are recommended by classroom teachers at each school.

 

Harrison said at other times during the year, donations help foster children in need of protection in the county receive money for fall clothing and birthday gifts, and case workers receive financial assistance when dealing with emergency situations.

 

You’re invited to stop by and make a donation Saturday at Walmart, or you can mail them to Shelby County Child Welfare Board, P.O. Box 395, Shelbyville.

 

Center Broadcasting will be on hand from 10 a.m. to noon during the event broadcasting on Q-100 KQBB.
