Shane Hadnot pleads guilty in federal court to possession charges related to death of Alfred Wright

The Jasper man who is believed to have furnished drugs to Alfred Wright over a year ago that subsequently led to his death pleaded guilty to federal drug violations in Beaumont Wednesday.

Court records show that 28-year old Shane Dwayne Hadnot pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

An investigation into the cause of Alfred Wright’s disappearance and death revealed his involvement with Hadnot.

Wright’s body was found by family members in Sabine County almost three weeks after his truck broke down Nov. 7, 2013.

Phone records, witness statements, and drug evidence located during the search of Hadnot's car, indicated that he was selling cocaine to Wright.

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales said the guilty plea signals that the investigation has reached a significant point of closure. Hadnot faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

A sentencing date has not been set.
