Shelby County Commissioners to consider moving Indigent Health Care out of county judges' office, employing a full-time coordinator

The Shelby County Commissioners’ Court will meet at 9:30 a.m. this morning and among the agenda items to be discussed and for possible action will moving the Indigent Health Care department from the county judge’s office.

This matter has been discussed for some time and paying another person to handle the duties was even included in the recent Budget.

In addition, current IHC Coordinator and County Judge Assistant Deanne Sample has announced her departure, with her last day on the job at the courthouse today.

Ms. Sample tells Center Broadcasting she’s accepted a position as a legal assistant to Jim Payne at Fairchild Law Firm.

She advised the IHC coordinator position has been full-time in itself.

There’s also expected discussion and possible action at today’s meeting for County Judge Rick Campbell to hire an employee to fill the vacancy as IHC coordinator.

We spoke with County Judge-elect Allison Harbison Friday and she said she would be filling the county judge administrative assistant position when she took office Jan. 1.

In another agenda item, commissioners are expected to pass a resolution in support of refundable deposits on aluminum, glass & plastic beverage containers sold in the state. This is a state-wide effort to help with keeping litter from ditches and along roadsides.

The commissioners’ court is also to approve bonds for newly elected officials at today’s meeting.
