Center, Timpson, San Augustine & Nacogdoches have Christmas parades scheduled this weekend

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Lighted Christmas Parade Saturday evening in Center is coming right from the North Pole and of course Jolly ol’ Saint Nick will be among the parade participants.

 

County Judge Rick Campbell is parade grand marshal, and Parade Committee Chairman Dr. Randy Collard encourages everyone to arrive early and enjoy holiday events on the downtown square.

 

Dr. Collard said over 30 lighted floats from individuals, business and civic groups were included in the parade.

 

We’ll be posting the parade winners Monday morning.

 

Dr. Collard thanked the City of Center for making sure the lights on top of the buildings were in working order and said the new decorations inside the courthouse square were very nice.

 

Vendors open at 4, parade starts at 6 p.m. Saturday in Center. By the way, the weather is forecast to be dry and temperatures in the low 50s.

 

The 19th annual Miss Merry Christmas and Mister Happy Holiday’s Pageant will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Center Middle School Auditorium.

 

The Timpson Chamber of Commerce is planning a day with Santa Saturday. Come join Santa for a pancake breakfast and photo opportunity between 8:30 and 10 a.m.—Santa should arrive around 9 a.m. at Frontier Café on the square in Timpson. The annual Timpson Christmas Parade will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

The San Augustine Chamber of Commerce is hoping the weather cooperates today for their annual Christmas parade and other outdoor events. The Garden Club Chili Supper is at 4 p.m. at The Meeting Place downtown, and the lighting of the square and Christmas parade is at 5 p.m. Saturday’s events include a Christmas open house from 10 to 2 at Texas Star Retail Store, and the Miss Merry Christmas Pageant is at 6 p.m. at the Museum Theater.

 

Center Broadcasting will be live on location at the Nacogdoches Wal-Mart Saturday morning to assists with the Toys for Tots collection effort of new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to children in Deep East Texas. The all-day toy drive will assist in providing toys to some 3,500 youngsters from ages one to 12 years. Benefiting from the effort will be "Santa Rides a Motorcycle" and the Boys & Girls Club in San Augustine. If you can donate a toy or even monetary help, stop by Nacogdoches Wal-Mart Saturday and assist Toys for Tots. Center Broadcasting's Q-100 KQBB will be on location from 10 a.m. to noon.

 

The 18th annual Nacogdoches Nine Flags Christmas Festival will be tonight & Saturday. Millard’s Crossing Historic Village’s “An Old Fashioned Christmas” will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, The Jingle Bell Run 5K will begin at 8 a.m. in downtown Nacogdoches. The inaugural Tour of Museums will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the lighted Christmas parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Celebrities Johnathan and Drew Scott of HGTV’s Property Brothers and JD Scott of Great American Country TV’s All-American Amusement Parks will be the guest judges for the parade.

 

Christmas on the Square in Garrison will be held in Sunday. Vendors are welcome - free booth space. There will be food, a 5K run, train rides and games for the kids, a Christmas parade at 2 p.m., Santa telling the Christmas Story, band concert and cake auction among other events.

 

 

Still Waters Cowboy Church in Carthage is sponsoring a Motorcycle Run, Reason for the Season Bible/Bicycle Drive to benefit the children of Panola & Shelby County tomorrow. Registration is $20 per motorcycle/car, with an additional $15 per person. The goal is 1,500 Bibles and 1,500 bicycles. For more info contact Bo Chandler at 903-690-6616.
