East Texas water rights protected thanks to state funding announced this week

State Senator Robert Nichols and State Representative Trent Ashby were among the state officials on hand in Lufkin Tuesday that announced that state funding through the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas was now available for rural East Texas.

Officials with the Water Development Board said funding would allow for Texas to have a stable water system for the next 50 years.

The funding was approved at the last legislative session in Austin and frees up $2 billion.

Rep. Ashby said the fund and House Bill 4 will help the rest of Texas, and take their eyes off of East Texas water by allowing them to develop ways locally to go about funding their projects within their territory, within their region.
