Sen. Nichols files bills to limit growth of property taxes & protect property rights

With the 84th Legislative Session convening on Jan. 13, Sen. Robert Nichols has recently filed legislation that would limit the growth of property taxes and prohibit the use of eminent domain for recreational purposes.

Sen. Nichols said the first bill is a constitutional amendment designed to slow rapidly rising taxable values on Texas homes. He added it was important to limit the increase in people’s property taxes even when the value of their home increases.

Nichols said his second bill would prohibit state or local governments from taking private land for recreational purposes. The senator said, “No homeowner should lose the roof over their head so others can have a place to play.”
