Hemphill man says he shook child when she became unresponsive, being held on murder charges

The Sabine County man that been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s five-month old daughter says he shook the baby after she became unresponsive after coughing up milk.

 

The arrest affidavit says that 25-year old Matthew Hudson dropped baby Sophia Candanosa’s mother off at work early the morning of Nov. 7, went back home to a Hemphill residence and gave the baby formula while she lay on her back, he said the child started bubbling milk and noticed she was unresponsive, and allegedly started to shake the child in an effort to get a response.

 

The baby died at Texas Children’s Hospital. Hudson remains in the Sabine County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
