Local Sports Roundup--11/24/14: Tenaha remains alive in state football playoffs, basketball action scheduled today

The Tenaha Tigers are the lone remaining football team in the immediate area still alive in the state football playoffs with a 40-26 win over Hubbard in a Class 2A, Div. II area round game in Lindale Friday. Tenaha will now face Normangee at 6 p.m. Friday in Bullard in a regional semi-final contest. Normangee advances with a 40-21 win over Lindsay.

 

In last weekend’s other area playoff games, it was Chilton over Timpson, 33-7, Centerville defeats San Augustine, 69-36, and East Beauregard over Logansport, 43-26 in Louisiana second-round play.

 

Also, El Campo over Carthage, 28-21, Carlisle defeats West Sabine, 27-26, Alto beats Ore City, 65-29, and Jasper over Houston Stafford, 21-7. Gladewater beats Fairfield, 34-16, Atlanta upends Cleveland-Tarkington, 49-28, Tatum over Coldspring-Oakhurst, 35-12, Henderson beats West Columbia, 36-20, S&S Consolidated over Elysian Fields, 28-27, Rogers over Corrigan-Camden, 40-14, Crockett advances with a 48-44 win over Clifton, Dallas South Oak Cliff beats Marshall, 55-35, Mansfield Lake Ridge hands Longview a 37-35 loss, John Tyler over Mansfield Summit, 44-27, Navasota defeats Chapel Hill, 49-28, Waskom over Leonard, 52-32, and Newton over Dublin, 56-13.

 

Chief Caddo is back home in Nacogdoches, as the SFA Lumberjacks get a last second 41-yard field goal and defeat Northwestern State, 27-24 Saturday. In the process, SFA received an at-large bid to the 2014 FCS Playoffs. The Jacks will travel to the University of Northern Iowa for a 7 p.m. kick-off Saturday.

 

High school basketball today, the No.. 7 state-ranked San Augustine Wolves open their season at Cushing; the Timpson Lady Bears go to Union Hill; the Joaquin Lady Rams will be in Pineland against West Sabine; Tatum will be at the Garrison Lady Bulldogs; and the Broaddus boys' and girls' will be at Woden.

 

The Center Roughrider Boy' Basketball teams will be playing their home opener tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 25th beginning at 5 PM in the Center High School Gym. Freshmen will tip things off, followed by Junior Varsity and then Varsity. The Varsity Riders will also be participating in the Burger King Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28th and 29th. Those games will be played at the Whitehouse High School gym, instead of at UT-Tyler. On Friday, they will face Jacksonville at 6 PM and on Saturday they will play Lindale at 4:30 PM.

 

Other boys' basketball Tuesday, the San Augustine Wolves go to the Shelbyville Dragons.

 

Girls, the Center Lady Riders head to the Garrison Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Carthage will be in Shelbyville to play the Lady Dragons in a 2 p.m. start; and the Joaquin Lady Rams go to Marshall Tuesday at 5 p.m.
