TxDOT awards construction contract on San Augustine "circle intersection" configuration

We told you several months ago the traffic circle in San Augustine would be going away and TxDOT would be replacing the longtime configuration with a signalized intersection.

The Texas Transportation Commission approved a construction contract for the intersection of SH 21 and U.S. 96 in the amount of $3.38 million to Drewery Construction of Nacogdoches recently.

The new design calls for two dedicated turn lanes, along with curb and gutter, storm drain and sidewalks.

Mayor Leroy Hughes says the project will get underway after the first-of-the year and should take around 10 months to complete.
