State Rep. Trent Ashby gives legislative update to attendees of San Augustine Chamber Luncheon

Texas State Rep. Trent Ashby of Lufkin was guest speaker at the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce's monthly luncheon this week and said the upcoming 84th Legislative Session with a new cast of players in state-wide offices, along with some key issues to be addressed, it should be an interesting 5-months.

Ashby said, they have had a major change in the make-up including a new governor, lt. governor, attorney general, comptroller among others. He says the focus during the 84th Legislative Session will be education funding, water rights, transportation and border security, in addition to private property rights and gun laws. Ashby said he would be doing his best to make sure the people of East Texas get their fair share during the session.

Ashby was just re-elected to a second term, and was tabbed Freshman Legislator of the Year by his peers at the conclusion of the last session.

He serves on the House Natural Resource and Appropriations Committees.

His 57th House District includes Angelina, Houston, Leon, Madison, Trinity and San Augustine Counties. The 84th Texas Legislative Session is set to begin Jan. 13.
