Local Sports Roundup 11/18/14; SFA taking part in ESPN's Tip-off Marathon this morning; CHS Powderpuff Football Classic tonight

The SFA Lumberjacks men’s’ basketball program is taking part in ESPN’s Tip-Off Marathon today. SFA is the only Texas team to host a game. Tip-off is 8 a.m. this morning in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free before 7: 30 a.m. The game is with the University of Northern Iowa. ESPN2 will air the game. SFA is putting its 34 game home winning streak on the line this morning.

 

In high school basketball action today it'll be Carthage at San Augustine to play the Lady Wolves; Cushing at Shelbyville to play the Lady Dragons; Tyler Grace at the Timpson Lady Bears; Garrison Lady Bulldogs at Beckville; and Gary will be at Broaddus for boys’ and girls’ action.

 

The Center High senior and freshmen girls renew their rivalry over the sophomore and junior girls in the 43rd (Semi) Annual PowderPuff Classic at 6:30 p.m. this evening at Roughrider Stadium. Over 100 students will be participating in the game with 40 players, 12 coaches, and several lovely Powderpuff Cheerleaders, twirlers, and chaparrals.  At halftime, the PowderPuff Band will perform, followed by the Powderpuff Homecoming Queen Coronation featuring the lovely ladies of the 2014 Powderpuff Court. Over the past 18 seasons, the rivalry is a dead heat with the Senior and Freshman Gridiron Gladiators winning 9 games and the Junior and Sophomore Team winning the other nine. Admission for all guests is $3, with pre-school age children admitted free.  All proceeds benefit the Senior Class of 2015.  The Senior Class and the Center Band Boosters will operate the concession stand.

 

In the second round of the high school football playoffs Friday,

 

The (8-1) Tenaha Tigers vs. (8-3) Hubbard at 7:30 p.m. in Lindale in a Class 2A, Region III, Div. II area round game. The winner has the Iola/Normangee winner in the third round. Tenaha ISD will early release at 2:30 pm Friday to allow drivers to complete bus routes prior to leaving for Lindale. Pep Rally will be at 2:10 in the Special Events Center.

 

The (5-5) Timpson Bears vs. (8-2) Chilton at 7:30 p.m. in Palestine in a Class 2A, Region III, Div. II game. The winner would meet the Iola/Muenster winner in the next round.

 

(6-5) San Augustine vs. (7-3) Centerville 7:30 p.m. in Troup in a Class 2A, Region III, Div. I area game. Center Broadcasting will have the action on 925 KXXE and online at cbc-radio.com. The winner will play the West Sabine/Price Carlisle winner.

 

The (8-2) West Sabine vs. (9-2)Price Carlisle Class 2A, Region III, Div. I area round game is at 7 p.m. Friday in Lufkin,

 

Also, (6-5) Carthage will play (10-1) El Campo at 7:30 p.m. Friday in New Caney in a Class 4A, Region III, Div. I area game, and the Logansport Tigers vs. East Beauregard at 7 p.m. Friday in DeRidder in a Louisiana High School Football second round game.
