Over $600,000 in Hurricane Ike Disaster Recovery Funds reallocated for DETCOG region

Officials with the Deep East Texas Council of Governments will reallocate $600,000 in hurricane disaster recovery funds for infrastructure projects in the 12-county region.

DETCOG Executive Director Walter Diggles told board members at the monthly board meeting at the Polk County Commerce Center in Livingston recently, that the Texas General Land Office, who administers the Hurricane Ike recovery program, will return unused funds to the area from Round 1 of the program.

Diggles said that money will be available to the region so they can continue projects that they may not had enough money to finish.

About $5.3 million were originally available to counties to address damages caused by Ike, which came ashore in Southeast Texas on Sept. 13, 2008 and caused damage throughout East Texas.
