Coach says player, "...made it right" with team, suspended Dragon will play Friday, Watson remains out

We want to update a story we had on this newscast Wednesday.

Center Broadcasting was able to confirm yesterday afternoon that one of the two Shelbyville Dragon Football players suspended for breaking the team rule for playing in a pick-up basketball game last weekend will play Friday night.

Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jason Ferguson said Dragon Linebacker Qay Mallard, “Did the right thing for his team by making it right, and got back into good graces.” That response corrected my asking if Mallard had been “reinstated”.

As for Quarterback CJ Watson, he’s still suspended. I’ve been able to confirm through an unnamed individual with strong ties to the community that the decision to suspended Mallard & Watson was made by their peers—the Dragon team, not coaches.

Shelbyville takes on Ore City Friday night in New London in a bi-district game.
