Hemphill man booked with first-degree murder in death of infant

The Hemphill man arrested Tuesday in the death of a five-month old Sabine County girl has been charged with first-degree murder, and remains in jail on a $250,000 bond.

 

The child has been identified as Sophia Cantanosa and cause of death is by some type of head trauma.

 

Charged in the incident is 25-year old Matthew Hudson, the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

 

Hudson was taking care of Sophia while the mother was at work.

 

The arrest warrant on Hudson was for first-degree murder, and the investigation revealed Hudson was reckless.

 

Sabine County authorities say if its found Hudson intentionally harmed the child, the charge will be upgraded to capital murder.
