Incumbents rule in San Augustine ISD, city elections

Looking at the San Augustine ISD Trustee election, the election favored the incumbents. There is a tie, however for Position 3, as incumbent Ryan Garcia and Patricia McClure each get 684 votes. We were told there are several mail ballots to be counted in that election.

In Position 4, Incumbent Edwin Henley is re-elected with 892 votes, challenger David Garner with 305 and Henry Lee Garner 213; Position 5 incumbent Orvin Garrett takes the most votes, but does not get a clear majority, with only 47% of votes cast. Garrett had 676, to 516 for Dennis Barnes and Loretta Bedford with 223. We’ll have to check and see if there will be a run-off; and for Position 6, incumbent Charles Boyett ended with 959 votes, to 453 for Steven Standley.

Also, the San Augustine City Council election also went the way of the incumbent, well almost all. In Alderman #1, incumbent Valencia Price over Alana Borders, 282-167; Alderman #2 incumbent Pamela N. Teel 304 to 196 for James “Jim” Blackwell; Alderman #3 sees incumbent Mike Malone winning 272-242 over Stacy “Jack” Watts; Alderman #4 has incumbent Joe Verhalen defeating Rodney “Rod” Litton, 257-231; and in Alderman #5, challenger Dan Fussell wins with 331 votes, to 127 for incumbent Claudia Cabriales and 61 for Dr. John Alexander.
