San Augustine County Commissioners agree to hire Riley as interim Veterans Officer

San Augustine County Commissioners' Court approved the hiring of an interim Veterans' Service Officer during their meeting Tuesday morning.

Sherry Riley, who's also the Shelby County Veterans' Service Officer, will be assisting in San Augustine until a full-time replacement is made for Jim Fowler, who resigned due to personal reasons.

Ms. Riley will be in San Augustine County on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am to 4pm, and closed from 12-1 for lunch.

The OK was also given for Commissioner Pct. 4 Rodney Ainsworth to work with Powell Town Fire Chief Tommy Bailey to repair the driveway at the fire station. It was confirmed with the county attorney that this is legal due to the fact Powell Town VFD is a county emergency service provider.

San Augustine County Commissioners also gave their backing to the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder proclamation. This is urging Texas State Government to provide appropriate funding for veterans that suffer the residual effects from serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The next San Augustine County Commissioners' Court meeting has been moved to Monday, Nov. 10 due to the Veterans' Day Holiday.
