Nugent family hoping to send Bernie Tiede back to prison, saying he took large amounts of cash

The family of murdered Carthage millionaire Marjorie Nugent is seeking to send Bernie Tiede back to prison, as they released photocopies of two checks earlier this week.

The Nugent Family released a letter sent by Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake in response to the family's open records request for evidence from the original murder investigation in 1996. That investigation spawned a second, still-pending charge of theft against Tiede in the amount of $100,000 to $200,000.

The allegation was that Tiede had been siphoning large amounts of money off of Marjorie, likely without her knowledge.

Tiede won release from prison earlier this year based on his alleged history of childhood sexual abuse, and new medical testimony claimed he "snapped" when he murdered Ms. Nugent after suffering alleged emotional abuse.

After serving 15 years of a life sentence, he was released, and has been living with filmmaker Richard Linklater in Austin.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is considering whether to make Tiede's release permanent or force him to return to prison.

The Nugent Family is saying Tiede murdered Marjorie to avoid prosecution for the alleged thefts.

Sheriff Lake's letter to the Nugent Family said Tiede was engaged in a "Deceptive course of conduct."
