Local Sports Roundup 10/28/14; Shelbyville Jr. High Cross Country teams take district, Dragons, Tigers hovering below AP Top 10

The Shelbyville Dragons and Lady Dragons Junior High Cross Country Teams pulled off a sweep of the championship at the District 22 Cross Country Meet last Wednesday at Lake Naconiche. The Junior High Dragon Boys team made school history by being the first Boys Cross Country Team at any level to win a District Championship. And with the Girls also winning the District Title, this is the first time in Shelbyville Junior High history that the Dragons and Lady Dragons have swept the championships.

 

Timpson Jr. High Cross Country participant Sadie Ramsey took the girls’ district championship with a time of 10:29. She was more than 20 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Timpson had 73 from high school through junior high taking part.

 

Girls’ volleyball action Tuesday, it’s the final game of the season for the Lady Riders as they have senior night hosting Diboll starting at 5 p.m., and the Timpson Lady Bears go to Carlisle to conclude their season.

 

It's Tuesday and Don Wall's Shelby County Coaches' Show will air from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight on Q100 KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com.

 

The AP Texas High School Rankings are out and the Shelbyville Dragons and Tenaha Tigers are both just below the Class 2A Top 10. Shelbyville is up a spot to No. 12 this week, while Tenaha is up three to No. 15, while Alto is No. 7. Refugio remains the No. 1 team. In Class 3A, Cisco is still No. 1, with Waskom at No. 5, Corrigan-Camden dropping to No. 12, Newton No. 14, and Kirbyville No. 15. The Rattlers of Navasota remain the top team in Class 4A, with Gilmer at No. 3, Gladewater No. 8, and Hardin-Jefferson No. 10. Up in 5A, Aledo is No. 1, with Longview at No. 15. The top team in 6A is still Allen.

 

This week's Friday night high school football action, Center at Texarkana Pleasant Grove, San Augustine goes to Shelbyville, Joaquin at Cushing,  Timpson at Maud, Overton will be in Tenaha Saturday for the Tigers’ homecoming, Newton goes to Garrison, and Logansport goes to Northwood Lena.

 

In sub-varsity football Thursday, the Center Roughrider Freshmen/JV will combine for a final home game versus Texarkana Pleasant Grove at Roughrider Stadium at 5 p.m.

 

Meanwhile, the Center Middle School 7th Grade A team and 8th Grade A teams will go to Texarkana Pleasant Grove beginning at 4:30 p.m. The games are to be played at the high school stadium.
