Local Sports Roundup 10/24/14; Rider sub-varsity results, teams in must-win tonight to make playoffs

Tough night for Center Roughrider sub-varsity teams against Atlanta. The only win came as the 7B Riders defeated Atlanta, 12-6. The 7A Riders lose, 14-16, 8th grade came up short, 8-30, and the JV/Freshmen lost to Atlanta, 38-46.

 

The Timpson 8th grade team remains undefeated with a 36-6 win over Tenaha last night.

 

Tonight's high school football schedule has the 2-4 Center Roughriders at home for homecoming game against the 6-1 state-ranked Atlanta Rabbits. We'll have the game on KDET online at cbc-radio.com, and on 92.5 KXXE with Rob Chris and the Rider Radio Team describe the action from Roughrider Stadium starting at 7 p.m.

 

The Riders are 0-2 in district, and are trying to stop a three-game losing streak, including their first two district games. Other games in Dist. 6-4A, Div. II tonight include 1-1 Tatum at 1-1 Spring Hill and 1-1 Pleasant Grove at 2-0 Gladewater. The top-four teams in the district make the playoffs.

 

The 6-0 Shelbyville Dragons are home to play 4-2 Beckville in the Shelby County Game of the Week on Q-100 KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com. Don Wall has the play-by-play starting with pre-game at 7:20 p.m.

 

The Dragons and San Augustine Wolves are tied atop the Dist. 10-2A, Div. I standings at 2-0, with Beckville and West Sabine at 1-1, while Joaquin and Cushing are 0-2.

 

Joaquin is in a must-win tonight at San Augustine if they hope to keep their playoffs alive, as the top-three teams advance. Cushing goes to West Sabine in the other district game.

 

Elsewhere around the area, the 5-1 Tenaha Tigers go to the 2-4 Timpson Bears in a battle of the top-two teams in District 11-2A, Div. II. It's the first meeting between the two teams since 2009. Also, 1-1 Maud at 0-2 Fruitvale and 1-1 Overton at 0-2 Mt. Enterprise.

 

The 4-2 Garrison Bulldogs go to winless Crockett tonight. Garrison is tied with state-ranked undefeated Corrigan-Camden for the district lead at 2-0.

 

Also, St. Mary’s visits Logansport.

 

Other area games, Carthage at Brownsboro, Lindale at Nacogdoches, Ennis at Lufkin, Hemphill at Deweyville, Mt. Pleasant at Longview, Henderson at Palestine, and Jacksonville at Whitehouse, among others.

 

SFA is having homecoming, and the Lumberjacks will host Southeast Louisiana Saturday afternoon at Homer Bryce Stadium.

 

In volleyball, the Center Lady Riders will be in Jasper at 9 a.m. Saturday, and the Timpson Lady Bears are home against state-ranked Beckville at 4 p.m. Friday.
