Last Friday night’s high school football, all teams opened district. The Center Roughriders come up short at Spring Hill, 26-18. The Riders drop to 2-3 on the season. The Shelbyville Dragons are now 5-0 after a 42-12 win over the Joaquin Rams, who fall to 3-2. The Tenaha Tigers are 4-1 with a 49-15 victory against Maud, and the Timpson Bears get their first win of the season with a 32-18 decision at Mt. Enterprise.

 

In other district games, the San Augustine Wolves improve to 3-2 with a 34-32 win against West Sabine. The Garrison Bulldogs are 3-1 with a 40-0 shutout at Hemphill, Logansport is 5-1 on the season, and 2-0 in district with a 40-21 victory over LaSalle.

 

In a few more area games, the Nacogdoches Golden Dragons improve to 2-1 in district, 5-1 on the season with a 49-21 win over Corsicana, John Tyler beats Lufkin, 26-24, Henderson defeats Carthage, 38-16, Beckville over Cushing, 52-30, and Gladewater over Tatum, 52-8.

 

In this Friday’s games, Center goes to Tatum, Shelbyville at Cushing, Fruitvale at Tenaha, West Sabine at Joaquin for the Rams’ homecoming, Timpson at Overton, San Augustine at Beckville, Deweyville at Garrison for the Bulldogs’ homecoming, and Logansport at Block.

The SFA Lumberjacks take a 42-20 win over Nicholls State Saturday night to improve to 4-2 on the season, 1-1 in Southland Conference play.

 

Volleyball action Tuesday, the Center Lady Riders are home to play Jasper, and the Timpson Lady Bears go to Gary.

 

Nacogdoches pro fisherman Albert Collins won the recent FLW Rayovac Series Texas division tournament at Lake Sam Rayburn Oct. 2-4 taking close to $40,000 in prizes. Other Top 10 finishers included Phillip Crelia of Center in ninth place.
