Mooseberg Award winners recognized at poultry festival

The Mooseberg Awards were presented Saturday night at the poultry festival to honor poultry growers in deep east Texas.

 

The Tyson-Center/Nacogdoches Complex award was presented to The Tom Gray-Sundown Farm, owned by Tom, Jaunell, Jason and Tommy Gray, Jr. The Grays have been growers since 1995, owning 4 houses with 44,000 capacity.

 

The Tyson-Tenaha/Carthage Complex award went to Keith and Shonia Putman, owners of Putnam & Putnam Farm. They are second generation growers with eight houses and a capacity of 220,400.

 

The Pilgrim’s Pride Complex award was presented to John and Kaley Mathews. The John Mathews Family has been growers since 1999, with six houses and 131,400 capacity.

 

The recipients were honored in a private reception at Farmers State Bank.

 

The Awards is named in honor of former Shelby County Agent John Mooseberg, who helped spearhead the development of the Shelby County poultry industry in 1948.
