Earthquake detected near Shelbyville late last night, no damage reported

Did you feel it last night, no, not the rumble of thunder, but an earthquake!

After the storms went through the area last night, a 3.1 earthquake was detected by the U.S. Geological Survey some nine miles east southeast of Center, just south of Shelbyville.

The seismometers detected the quake around 11:52 p.m., at a depth of 3.1 miles.

Checking with the Shelby County Sheriff’s office, they’ve had no reports of damage reported, but a few calls.

It marked the 15th recorded earthquake in Shelby County dating back to May 2012, with all others in the Timpson area.
