The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on FM 2428, just inside the city limits around 2:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

According to Stephen Ewing, units arrived to find heavy fire in the attic of the residence of Shannon Pate.

Three trucks and 10 firefights responded and their aggressive interior attack kept the fire out of the living area of the home.

Despite the effort, the residence and its contents received heavy smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
