Tenaha High School Physics Class constructs boats of cardboard, duct tape, some survive

The Tenaha High School Integrated Physics Class recently participated in an interactive experiment by heading out to Lake Murvaul to test boats they built in class.

The vessels were designed by the students in teams of four, and constructed of cardboard and duct tape.

The class instructor, David DePriest says students have been studying the properties of fluids, buoyancy, displacement and Archimede’s Principle. He said the project required students to practically apply these concepts.

Boats designs ranged from rafts, to Jon boats, and even one that looked like a school bus.

DePriest says several teams made the 200-yard course with ease, with a few sinking and couple never made it off short.
