Tenaha ISD ranks #1 in Texas Literacy Initiative, again

For the second consecutive year, the Tenaha ISD has been ranked number one as the top school among the 30 grantees for student growth with an almost 10 percent improvement rate in the areas of reading and writing from the Texas Literacy Initiative.

Tenaha ISD Superintendent Scott Tyner says the district received the news at last week’s meeting in San Antonio.

Tyner said over the past three years, Academic Affairs Director Martha Boren and Special Services Director Terry Bowlin have worked to implement portions of the over $1 million award (over five years) to address instructional strategies, develop assessments and individually assist students on a day-to-day basis to develop their literacy skills.

Tyner added Grant Specialist Wendy Watson and Elizabeth Ward have also been instrumental.

Tyner said the hard work of all Tenaha ISD staff members, teachers and most importantly, Tiger students made this feat possible.
