Center ISD participating in Flags to Fight Hunger

A new school year is underway and Center ISD is beginning its fifth year as a partner with the East Texas Food Bank's Backpack Program.

According to Center High School Counselor Alease Copelin, the program is made possible through the financial support of individuals, groups, organizations, Sunday school classes and more to provide child friendly snacks each weekend for food insecure students on three campuses.

She said the school district is beginning a new program to fight childhood hunger and support the Backpack program through Flags to Fight Hunger...a program that will promote patriotism in the community while providing support to help hungry children.

The Center community is encouraged to become participants and watch American flags fly across the town on six holidays each year for a yearly fee.

She said a team will come to set up and take down the flags each holiday, and insure they are positioned for maximum visibility. Many neighborhoods already have members who are acting as point of contact to provide information; businesses will receive information as well.
