The 38th East Texas Poultry Festival season will kick-off tomorrow with several events on tap, including the Chicken Fajita Luncheon, the Doo-Dah Parade sponsored by Center Tire Company and the Chicken Cooking Contest sponsored by Tyson Foods. The festival will run Thursday, Oct. 2 thru Saturday, Oct. 4 in downtown Center.
The Fajita Kick-Off Luncheon is $7 each, with sales to start at 11 a.m. tomorrow until sold out.
The Doo-Dah Parade will take place at 4:30 p.m. around the Center Square. Line-up is 4 p.m. at Farmers State Bank’s drive-thru.
Trophies and cash prizes will be given to the top cooks by categories at the Chicken Cooking Contest starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday. There will also be People's Choice and the Best Dressed Table. The public is invited to come out on the east side of the square and try the dishes for a $5 charge.
The Rooster Revel will also be Wednesday featuring exclusive Rooster Revel 2014 metal silhouette designs created and hand painted by the Center High Agribusiness and Marketing students and art students. A select number of the silhouettes will be auctioned at 6 p.m.
The Poultry Festival Open Photography Show will be held at Vision Source, located next to the Rio Theatre, Oct. 2-4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Texas Education Extension Association is hosting the annual quilt show during the festival. Quilts will be on display at the Historic Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
