City of Center to hold public hearing on proposed reinvestment zone Monday

The City of Center will conduct a public hearing at 5 p.m. Monday to hear argument on an area to be designated as a reinvestment zone on the edge of town.

City Manager Chad Nehring said the 83 acres is located north of FM 699 adjoining FM 2468. Nehring noted this is required prior to any possible discussion or action related to any development incentives, including possible tax abatements. He said the land area is the current Port-a-Cool properties and the former Bruce’s plant, which the city is preparing to be able to offer available assistance with any potential expansion or renovations.

Nehring advised there are no projects ready to proceed, but several options and opportunities have been discussed that could be located within the area.
