Local Sports Round up 9/19/14; Week 4 gridiron action, Riders at home vs Jasper, other highlight games

Rain, and lots of it cancelled the Center JV/Freshmen combined football game last night in Jasper. Report is the Jasper area received some 5 inches of rain yesterday.

 

It’s Week 4 of the high school football season, and tonight’s schedule has the 1-1 Center Roughriders at home taking on 1-2 Jasper at Roughrider Stadium. Center Broadcasting will have all the action on KDET online at cbc-radio.com and on 92.5 KXXE as Rob Payne, Chris Watlington and the Rider Radio Team handle the action beginning with the stadium pre-game at 7 p.m.

 

Also, one of the marquee games in East Texas has two state-ranked teams go head-to-head, as Class 2A’s #3 ranked Tenaha will be at Class 3A #10 ranked White Oak. Tenaha is 2-0, while White Oak is 3-0; Shelbyville goes to Colmesneil, Joaquin will be at Cayuga in our Shelby County Game of the Week on Q-100, KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com with Don Wall’s call, and Timpson is open.

 

In addition, San Augustine goes to Groveton, New Diana at Garrison, and Logansport at Red River. In other area games Carthage at Gladewater and Burkeville at Hemphill. Nacogdoches and Lufkin, both have open dates.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks are home Saturday to play Weber State before the start of Southland Conference play. Kick-off at Homer Bryce Stadium is 6 p.m.

 

In volleyball, the Center Lady Riders will host Jasper at 4:30 p.m. today, and will be home against the Shelbyville Lady Dragons at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Timpson Lady Bears will open district this afternoon at home with Gary.

 

The Center Rider Varsity Tennis will be in Lindale Saturday morning.

Rider Cross Country will be at the New Summerfield Invitational Saturday.

There will be an antique and classic car show at McMahan’s Chapel, 10 miles east of San Augustine, Saturday. Registration gets underway at 8 a.m., with the show starting at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $20 for all vehicles. There will be hamburgers and hot dogs, and fixins for $6 each. All proceeds go to McMahan’s Chapel.
