Local Sports Round up 9/17/14; Tenaha remains #3 in latest AP rankings

The AP High School Football Rankings are out heading into Week 4, and the Tenaha Tigers remain the No. 3 team in Class 2A, and Alto is ranked No. 17. Refugio and Mart respectively hold down the top-two spots. Cisco is the top team in Class 3A, and several East Texas teams in the mix, including Corrigan-Camden is No. 5, Kirbyville 6th, Waskom 8th, White Oak 10th, and Arp 13th. In 4A, Stephenville is still No. 1, West Orange-Stark 6th, Van 13th, Tatum 15, and Atlanta is 17. Also ranked are Gladewater at 19th, and Carthage No. 20. In 5A, Lufkin has dropped to 3rd, John Tyler is 7th, Whitehouse 17th, and Longview 21st. Allen is still No. 1 in 6A.

 

This week’s high school football schedule has the Center Roughriders wrapping up a three-game home stand as Jasper comes to Center. Center Broadcasting will have all the action on KDET online at cbc-radio.com and on 92.5 KXXE. In addition, Tenaha goes to White Oak, Shelbyville at Colmesneil, Joaquin at Cayuga in our Shelby County Game of the Week on Q-100, KQBB and online at cbc-radio.com; Timpson has an open date, San Augustine goes to Groveton, and Logansport at Red River.

 

In sub-varsity action Thursday, the Center Middle School Football teams will be facing Nacogdoches McMichael Middle School instead of Jasper. The games will all be played in Nacogdoches at McMichael Middle School with the 7th Grade B team starting at 4:30 PM, on Thursday, September 18. All 7th Grade A will follow immediately after B, then 8th Grade B team, and finishing with 8th Grade A Team.

 

The Center Freshmen and JV football teams will combine for a single game versus the Jasper Bulldogs this Thursday, September 18th. The game will be in Jasper at 6 PM.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks are home Saturday to play Weber State before the start of Southland Conference play. Kick-off at Homer Bryce Stadium is 6 p.m.

 

In volleyball, the Center Lady Riders will host the Shelbyville Lady Dragons at 10 a.m. Saturday, while the Timpson Lady Bears are will open district Friday at home with Gary.

 

The Center Rider Varsity Tennis will be home Thursday to take on Lufkin, and will be in Lindale Saturday morning. The Rider JV Tennis team goes to Lufkin today.
