Tenaha High School student dies, funeral service set, activities to move forward

The Tenaha ISD and Tenaha community is mourning the death of a high school student that passed away Tuesday night after reportedly collapsing.

 

The school district tells us 15-year old Sophomore, LaShasta Johnson died at ETMC in Carthage from possible complications associated with Sickle Cell Anemia. An exact cause of death is not known.

 

According to TISD Administrative Secretary Brenda Lucas, LaShasta was a very popular and active student. She was in the band and member of the Tiger Doll dance team and she’ll be greatly missed.

 

Counselors were on the high school campus Wednesday assisting with grieving students and staff.

 

Funeral service for LaShasta Johnson will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church in Tenaha.  

 

Superintendent Scott Tyner tells us that all extra-curricular activities, including tonight and Friday night’s football games will go on as scheduled against Shelbyville.
