Child, elderly female recovering from dog attack in Nacogdoches County

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office is investigating a gruesome attack by two pit bull dogs that left an eight year old child and an elderly woman recovering from dog bite wounds.

According to a press release from Sheriff Jason Bridges, the dogs had apparently escaped out of a back yard fence through a hole after dark at a home on CR 8113.

Another child had asked the victim to help look for her lost dogs. When the two split up to search, that's when the two dogs came running up to the victim and began to jump on her.

As the child attempted to run away, she fell, and the dogs began attacking her. An elderly woman heard the attack, came running and lay on top of the child. However, the dogs continued to attack both. Another neighbor eventually used a baseball bat to beat the dogs off.

Both victims are reported to be in stable condition.

The dog owner voluntarily surrendered both animals to the Nacogdoches Sheriff's Office and Nacogdoches Animal Shelter.

Sheriff Bridges said that both animals will be put down.
