Lumberton man loses life in two-vehicle accident Friday morning near Center

A Lumberton man lost his life as the result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning in Shelby County.

 

According to DPS Communications in Lufkin, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, occupied by 54- Howard Dean Steele was traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy. 96, some 4 miles south of Center around 9:30 a.m., when a Dodge Ram van, driven by 38-year old Lester Buford of Keithville, Louisiana, traveling southbound, reportedly failed to yield right-of-way as he attempted to turn left onto FM 2140, the Neuville Road, striking the motorcycle.

 

Steele left the roadway and came into contact with trees.

 

He was air lifted by Life-Air Rescue to University Health in Shreveport, where he was dead on arrival.

 

Trooper Keith Jones’ investigation continues with no charges filed at this time.
