Local Sports Round up 9/2/14; Tenaha Tigers stay at No. 3 in AP Poll

The AP released its Top 10 high school football poll for the week on Monday, and the Tenaha Tigers remain at No. 3 in the Class 2A rankings, behind No. 1 Refugio and No. 2 Mart. Alto is No. 17 and West Sabine comes in at No. 18. Cisco is still on top in 3A, with Corrigan-Camden at No. 5, and Waskom No. 7 after losing to Center, and Kirbyville is 10th. Other East Texas teams just outside the Top 10 include Daingerfield at 12, White Oak 13, Arp 14, and Newton at No. 20. Up to 4A, Stephenville is the top team, with Gilmer No. 7, Carthage tied for ninth, Kilgore 13th, Gladewater 14th and Tatum No. 15. The No. 1 team in 5A remains Aledo, with John Tyler No. 2, Lufkin up to No. 5, and Longview 11th. Allen is the No. 1 team in 6A.

 

Week 2 of high school football has the Center Roughriders home against Buna for the first of three-straight home games; the Tenaha Tigers head to Brook Hill; Garrison goes to Shelbyville in our Shelby County Game of the Week; Timpson at Harleton; and Woodville at Joaquin. Also, it’ll be Lindale at Carthage; Splendora at San Augustine; Nacogdoches at Hallsville; and Tyler Lee at Lufkin. Logansport will kick off their season at Mansfield.

 

The Center High School JV and Freshmen football teams will be combining for one game only versus Buna. The game will be in Buna on Thursday, Sept. 4th, starting at 5 p.m.
