Pickup truck burns at abandoned residence, sheriff's office investigating

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a pickup truck fire that occurred late Wednesday morning in the James Community at an abandoned house on County Road 3140.

Center Fire Chief Keith Byndom told Center Broadcasting his department arrived to find a late-model four-door Chevrolet pickup fully engulfed in flames, very close to the structure, and no one around.

Chief Byndon said due to the suspicious nature, he notified the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Willis Blackwell advised the house belonged to Jeff Webster.

Due to damage caused by the fire, the VIN and license plate were unreadable.

Sheriff Blackwell said if anyone has any information about a missing pickup or the incident, to contact his office at 936-598-5601.
