Sports Round-up 8/28/14

The high school football season kicks-off Friday night, and the local schedule includes the Center Roughriders at Waskom to take on last years' state semi-finalist. Center Broadcasting will have all the Rider action on KDET online at cbc-radio.com and on 92.5 KXXE with Rob Payne and Chris Watlington and the Rider Broadcast team. Also, the Shelby County Game of the Week has the Tenaha Tigers at the Joaquin Rams. Don Wall will describe the action on Q-100 KQBB, and on cbc-radio.com. Elsewhere, the Shelbyville Dragons go to Linden-Kildare; the Timpson Bears will be in Tyler to play All Saints Episcopal, the San Augustine Wolves go to Garrison to play the Bulldogs; and the Logansport Tigers are playing in the DeSoto Parish Jamboree in Mansfield.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks will open their football season Saturday night in Manhattan, Kansas against Kansas State. Kick-off is 6:10 p.m.

 

Volleyball action today, has the Center Lady Riders and the Timpson Lady Bears both playing in the Waskom Tournament Thursday today thru Saturday.

 

The Center Youth Football League will continue with sign-ups today from 5-7:30pm. Sign-ups will also be held on Saturday, Aug. 30th from 10:00am-1:00pm. The last day to sign up will be August 30th. All sign-ups will be held in the Center Middle School Cafeteria. Be sure and bring a copy of your child's birth certificate. Sign up fees are $50 for flag and $80 for tackle. Ages 5-12 are allowed to play.

 

Shelbyville Youth Football League will have football sign up today at the Shelbyville Youth Baseball fields from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. The last day to sign up will be Saturday, August 30th from 10:00am until 3:00pm.

 

 

Sign ups for Joaquin Youth Football and Cheer will be Saturday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Haslam. The league is for Kindergarten thru 6th Grade, and a child must be 5 by Sept. 1, 2014. A copy of the child's birth certificate is needed at time of sign-up.

 

The National Wild Turkey Federation will be hosting its annual adult-child dove hunt and JAKES event, Sunday, Sept. 7 starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Sabine National Forest near Shelbyville. Only 20 applicants will be accepted. The hunt is for youth, 8 to 17 years of age, and child must have taken a State Hunters Education, and be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older who possesses a valid State Hunting License. The Dove hunting season opens up Monday in the North and Central Zones in Texas, and will continue until Oct. 20. There will also be a dove season from Dec. 19 - Jan. 7, 2015.
