Final suspect in healthcare fraud case receives sentence

The co-owner of a former ambulance service in Shelby and surrounding counties, North East Texas EMS, was sentenced last week for his part in the company's health care fraud conspiracy.

A federal judge sentenced 50-year old William Morris Harville of Elgin to a year, plus a day in prison. He must also pay $787,407 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release after he finishes his prison term.

Two co-defendants, 57-year old Cathy Messer Harvill of Elgin, and 43-year old Shon Everett Cooper of Center, received their sentences earlier this month. Harvill received 27 months in prison and Cooper received five years probation.

The three conspired from Jan. 2007 to March 2012 to make false claims through Medicate and Medicaid by using the ambulance services when it was not necessary.

Cooper supervised the Nacogdoches office of the company.
