It's the final scrimmage action before the start of the regular season next week for local high school football teams. Today, the Center Roughriders will be home at 5 p.m. to take Brook Hill; the Tenaha Tigers go to New Diana for a 5 p.m. start; and the San Augustine Wolves go to Woodville. Friday's scrimmages have the Joaquin Rams at Colmesneil; the Timpson Bears and Shelbyville Dragons will both be involved in a three-way scrimmage as they head at West Rusk; and the Garrison Bulldogs are home to play Groveton.

 

The Logansport Tigers will be at Lakeside tomorrow night.

 

Meet the Riders will be held, Monday, Aug. 25, at 7 P.M. at Roughrider Stadium. All Middle School and High School Athletic Programs will be recognized as well as the Middle School and High School Spirit Teams and Middle School and High School Bands.
 

Also, the 3rd Annual Purple Pride Cookout will be hosted by the CHS Cheerleaders next Monday night, Aug. 25 during Meet the Riders. They will be serving meals at the Center Roughrider Stadium Concession Stand from 4:00-6:30 P.M. Each dinner will be $7 and will consist of a Hamburger, chips, dessert, and water. If you'd like to purchase a meal ticket in advance, you can get one from any member of the JV or Varsity Cheerleader Squads and at the front office at Center High School. **The tickets show a serve time of 4:00-5:30. Please note that they will be serving until 6:30 instead.

 

Meet the Rams will be held tonight at 6:30pm in the Joaquin High School Gym.

 

Meet the Dragons will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Shelbyville gym.

 

By the way, Tenaha does not have a Meet the Tigers any longer. It's now Media Day, and this year's event takes place at 9 a.m. this morning at The Pit.

 

Volleyball action schedule will have the Center Lady Riders in the Marshall Tournament starting today. The Timpson Lady Bears are in the Overton Tournament beginning today.

 

The Center Youth Football League will have sign-ups on Tuesday, August 26th and Thursday, August 28th from 5-7:30pm. Sign-ups will also be held on Saturday, August 30th from 10:00am-1:00pm. The last day to sign up will be August 30th. All sign-ups will be held in the Center Middle School Cafeteria. Be sure and bring a copy of your child's birth certificate. Sign up fees are $50 for flag and $80 for tackle. Ages 5-12 are allowed to play. For more information contact Heath Hagler at 598-6148.

 

The East Texas Colts, a semi-pro football team that’s headquartered in Center will be having tryouts at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Center High School practice field behind Roughrider Stadium. You must be at least 18 years of age, just bring your cleats, shorts, gloves, etc. There’s a $25 non-refundable try-out fee.
