TxDOT launches "Drink. Drive. Go to Jail" now thru Labor Day

In an effort to lower the staggering statistic of a traffic crash about every 20 minutes of a driver under the influence of alcohol, TxDOT launched its annual Labor Day “Drink. Drive. Go to Jail” campaign last Friday, which reminds drivers and motorcyclist to avoid drinking and driving, or face severe consequences.

The campaign, now through Sept. 1, will see Texas law enforcement officers stepping up their vigilance to arrest drunk drivers.

During last year’s Labor Day weekend in Texas, nearly half of the 35 holiday traffic fatalities were caused by drivers under the influence. TxDOT has developed SoberRides.org to help people quickly and easily find sober alternatives to drinking and driving.

Options include asking a sober friend or family member for a ride home, and staying put.
