Local high school football teams will be taking part in controlled scrimmage action this evening or tomorrow as teams are seeing their first contact outside training camp. Today, Center is home to take on Palestine, starting with sub-varsity at 6 p.m., and varsity around 7 p.m.; Shelbyville goes to Deweyville; Tenaha’s home to scrimmage Harleton at 5 p.m.; and Timpson goes to Groveton with a 6 p.m. start. On Saturday, Joaquin’s home to take on Huntington at 9 a.m., San Augustine will be home to scrimmage Colmesneil at 6 p.m.; and Garrison hosts Arp at 10 a.m. Saturday. The regular season will kick-off Aug. 29.

Here’s a rundown of the annual ‘Meet the Team” events coming up. 

Meet the Wolves is being held in the San Augustine High School Gym starting at 6:30 pm tonight.

Meet the Rams will be held on Thursday, August 21 at 6:30pm in the Joaquin High School Gym.

Meet the Riders will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 25 at Roughrider Stadium.

Meet the Dragons will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Shelbyville gym.

High school volleyball action: The Center Lady Riders are playing in the Central Heights Tournament today and Saturday; and the Timpson Lady Bears are taking part in the Gary Tournament today and Saturday.
