TxDOT matching grant to assist San Augustine County with airport upgrades

The San Augustine County Airport has been in need of repairs for several years and thanks to a TxDOT matching grant of over $500,000, a project will begin soon that will allow for safer travel to and from the airport. San Augustine County Judge Samye Johnson says the funds will allow for runway extension and other work, such as guidance for air traffic and a generator. The judge added the airport can now have insurance for incoming planes.

 

She said the county has been after TxDOT airport funding for over three-and-a-half years, and thanks to the persistence of administrative assistant Sandy Jenkins, they responded. Judge Johnson says the TxDOT 90/10 grant will costs San Augustine County around $50,000, with NO tax-payer money involved. The matching monies will come from economic development.

 

Judge Johnson says work should begin soon on the San Augustine County Airport runway and guidance additions and repairs.
