Tri-County to begin food giveaway Thursday for qualified residents

Tri-County Community Action has partnered with the East Texas Food Bank to start a weekly food pantry giveaway to be known as "Harvest for Homes" for Shelby County residents this Thursday morning. Even though there are existing food pantries in the area, Tri-County believes more help for individuals and families is need. Social Services Director Brenda Allen says certain criteria must be met to receive food, but you may qualify, regardless.

She says a proof of Shely County residency and income verification is needed, such as Food Stamp Letter, TANF Letter, SSI Letter, etc. Eliminating the thought process for the elderly, especially those having to decide between whether they eat or buy prescription medication has prompted the start of "Harvest for Homes".

Ms. Allen says the grocery giveaway will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and every Thursday thereafter, at Tri-County's offices, at 214 Nacogdoches Street in Center.

She added Tri-County's produce drop served over 200 last month. It's being held the fourth Wednesday morning of each month at the old CVS building at the north traffic intersection in Center, and is open to anyone. For more information on the programs offered by Tri-County, contact their office at 598-6315.
