Tax Free Weekend starts Friday, one of the busiest shopping times of the year

Retailers across the state of Texas are preparing for what’s being called the second busiest shopping time of the year, as the annual sales tax holiday begins tomorrow and goes through the weekend.

Only the weekend after Thanksgiving is reported to be busier.

Shoppers can save money on certain items priced under $100 during the annual event. The law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales tax, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend during the weekend.

Lists of apparel and school supplies that may be purchased tax free can be found on the Texas State Comptroller’s website at TexasTaxHoliday.org.

Center Broadcasting encourages you to shop local, first, before going out of town.
